We’re proud to have consistently produced this show since October 2016. Even with the shift from a weekly schedule to fortnightly, we’ve only missed one publication date in that time. We hope you agree that the show has only gotten better with age, as we learn to be better researchers, writers, and presenters. What you don’t see is the time we invest in each episode. Our rule of thumb is that a one-hour podcast probably represents two hours of recording and three hours of editing. Add to that the amount of time it takes to research and write a 10-20 page script, and it adds up to a significant investment of time.
One of the best things about podcasts is that most shows are free for anyone to listen to. Unfortunately, it’s not free to create a podcast. We pay about $50 per month out of pocket to create the HUB History podcast. Ranked roughly from most to least costly, our monthly expenses are:
- Website security
- Web hosting
- Podcast feed hosting
- Audio processing
- Automated transcription
- Domain name registration
If you enjoy the show (and you can afford it), please consider helping us offset some of those expenses. You can support us by pledging as little as $2 per month via Patreon, or by giving a one-time contribution using PayPal. Signing up for a monthly pledge, even a small one, gives us confidence that we can cover our expenses every month. As a token of thanks, we give our Patreon patrons extras, from a free sticker to a shout-out on the show. Click the Patreon button below to learn more.
If you want to support us, but don’t want to commit to a monthly pledge, you can use the PayPal button below to send us any amount.
Any way you choose to support us, we are deeply grateful. If we get to a point where we break even on our monthly podcast expenses, we’ll apply any extra funds toward subscriptions to research tools like Jstor and newspaper archives. If we can afford it, we’d also like to upgrade our podcast feed hosting from our current provider to a more expensive option that provides better stats.
Thank you for supporting HUB History.
